Responsible AI Use & Editorial Ethics Policy

Our principles for responsible, transparent and human-led use of artificial intelligence.

Effective date: 5 October 2026

Overview

Aurea Regula uses modern technology, including artificial intelligence, to support aspects of research, writing, editing, translation, image production and editorial workflow.

We believe artificial intelligence can be a useful editorial tool when used carefully.

However, AI systems can produce inaccurate information, fabricated sources, misleading statements, biased outputs and other errors.

For this reason, Aurea Regula does not treat artificial intelligence as an independent editorial authority.

AI may assist our work, but it does not replace editorial judgement or responsibility.

How Aurea Regula Uses AI

Depending on the nature of the work, AI tools may assist Aurea Regula with:

  • research and information organisation;
  • brainstorming and idea development;
  • drafting and restructuring;
  • language editing;
  • translation;
  • summarisation;
  • headline and presentation development;
  • data organisation;
  • image creation or visual development;
  • technical and production workflows.

The use of AI may vary between articles and projects.

AI assistance does not necessarily mean that an article was written entirely by AI.

Human editorial judgement remains part of the publishing process.

Human Editorial Responsibility

Aurea Regula remains responsible for the editorial material it publishes.

The use of an AI system does not transfer editorial responsibility to the technology, its developer or its provider.

Editors and contributors remain responsible for making reasonable decisions about:

  • what information to publish;
  • whether a source is credible;
  • whether a claim has been sufficiently verified;
  • whether an article is fair and appropriately framed;
  • whether an image or other material is suitable for publication.

AI-generated output is therefore treated as material that may require review, rather than as automatically reliable editorial content.

Accuracy and Fact-Checking

AI systems can generate information that appears authoritative but is incorrect.

They may also:

  • invent sources;
  • misrepresent historical information;
  • confuse dates or specifications;
  • incorrectly attribute quotations;
  • combine unrelated facts;
  • produce outdated information;
  • present assumptions as facts.

Aurea Regula does not treat AI-generated information as authoritative evidence.

Material factual claims generated or assisted by AI may be independently checked against reliable sources before publication.

Our approach to verification is set out in our Fact-Checking Policy.

AI-Generated Errors

If an AI-assisted article contains a material factual error, Aurea Regula will assess and correct the error in accordance with our Corrections & Updates Policy.

The fact that an error originated from an AI system does not reduce Aurea Regula's responsibility to correct it.

We will not use the involvement of artificial intelligence as an excuse for publishing information that we have reason to believe is inaccurate.

Aurea Regula aims to publish original editorial work.

AI tools may assist with drafting, restructuring or developing ideas, but their use does not remove our responsibility to respect copyright, intellectual property and the rights of other creators.

We will not knowingly use AI to reproduce another publication's protected content in a manner that infringes copyright.

AI-assisted content should be reviewed for originality, accuracy, attribution and appropriate use of third-party material.

Where another person's work, quotation, research or intellectual contribution is used, appropriate attribution should be provided where required.

Images and Synthetic Media

Aurea Regula may use AI-assisted or AI-generated imagery for editorial illustration, visual storytelling, design development or other appropriate purposes.

Where an image could reasonably be mistaken for an authentic photograph or documentary record, we may identify it as AI-generated or AI-assisted where appropriate.

We will not intentionally present a synthetic image as documentary evidence of an event that did not occur.

AI-generated imagery should not be used to falsely suggest that Aurea Regula personally photographed, inspected or documented a product, person, location or event when that did not happen.

AI-Assisted Translation and Editing

AI may be used to assist with translation, grammar, spelling, clarity and other language-related tasks.

Human review remains important, particularly where the material involves:

  • historical terminology;
  • specialist technical language;
  • cultural references;
  • quotations;
  • legal or financial terminology;
  • nuanced opinions.

Translation or editing assistance should not materially alter the intended meaning of a source without appropriate editorial consideration.

Product Reviews and First-Hand Experience

AI may assist Aurea Regula in researching products, specifications and market information.

However, AI assistance must never be used to create the appearance of first-hand experience that did not occur.

Aurea Regula will not claim that it:

  • purchased a product;
  • tested a product;
  • handled a product;
  • wore a watch;
  • tasted a drink;
  • visited a location;
  • interviewed a person;
  • inspected an object;

unless that experience actually occurred.

This principle applies regardless of whether the statement was generated by a human, an AI system or a combination of both.

Disclosure of AI Use

Not every use of AI requires a disclosure to readers.

For example, routine assistance with grammar, translation, formatting or brainstorming may not materially affect the editorial substance of an article.

Where AI has played a significant role in creating an image, editorial work or other material and disclosure would help readers understand its nature, Aurea Regula may provide an appropriate disclosure.

Our objective is transparency without creating unnecessary technical complexity for readers.

Privacy and Confidential Information

Aurea Regula will take reasonable care when using AI systems to process information.

Confidential, sensitive or personally identifiable information should not be entered into an AI system unless there is an appropriate basis and adequate safeguards for doing so.

Editorial contributors should exercise particular care with:

  • unpublished material;
  • confidential sources;
  • private correspondence;
  • personal information;
  • commercially sensitive information;
  • information provided under an expectation of confidentiality.

Our approach to personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection requirements.

Bias and Editorial Independence

AI systems may reflect biases present in their training data, underlying systems or prompts.

Aurea Regula therefore does not assume that AI-generated recommendations, rankings, descriptions or interpretations are automatically neutral.

Editorial decisions should be based on evidence, editorial judgement and the interests of readers rather than an AI system's apparent confidence.

AI tools should not determine editorial conclusions simply because their output is convenient or persuasive.

Commercial and Editorial Independence

AI-generated recommendations should not be used to disguise commercial relationships or create artificial endorsements.

Where Aurea Regula has a commercial relationship with a brand, advertiser, affiliate partner or other organisation, that relationship should be handled in accordance with our Editorial Policy & Standards.

AI may assist with commercial content production, but commercial interests must not be presented as independent editorial judgement.

AI and Sources

AI systems may suggest sources, references or links during research.

Such suggestions should not automatically be treated as genuine or reliable sources.

Where a source is important to an article, the underlying source should be independently checked.

Aurea Regula will not knowingly publish fabricated citations or references generated by an AI system.

AI and Editorial Judgement

Aurea Regula believes that good editorial work requires more than producing grammatically correct text.

It requires judgement about:

  • relevance;
  • context;
  • evidence;
  • proportion;
  • taste;
  • fairness;
  • significance;
  • and the interests of the reader.

AI can help accelerate parts of this process.

It cannot replace the responsibility to decide what is worth publishing and how it should be presented.

Corrections and Accountability

If an AI-assisted article or image is found to contain a significant error, misleading representation or other material problem, Aurea Regula will assess the issue and take appropriate action.

This may include:

  • correcting the information;
  • adding clarification;
  • updating the article;
  • replacing an image;
  • adding a disclosure;
  • or removing material where appropriate.

Our Corrections & Updates Policy applies regardless of whether the original material was produced entirely by humans, assisted by AI or generated using AI tools.

Our AI Editorial Standard

Aurea Regula's approach to artificial intelligence can be summarised simply:

Use AI as a tool, not an authority.

Verify important claims.

Do not fabricate experience.

Respect copyright and attribution.

Protect confidential information.

Distinguish fact from opinion.

Disclose meaningful synthetic or AI-assisted material where appropriate.

Keep humans responsible for editorial decisions.

We believe technology should improve the quality of publishing rather than weaken its standards.

The objective is not to hide the use of technology.

It is to ensure that technology is used responsibly.

Responsible AI use forms part of Aurea Regula's wider editorial framework.
