Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy & Standards

Our principles for independent, accurate and considered publishing.

Effective date: 5 October 2026

Aurea Regula is an independent publication operated by HENRY HARRISON INVESTMENTS LTD.

We publish stories about watches, objects, craftsmanship, culture, style, design, automobiles, travel, food and drink, books, architecture and the many details that contribute to a considered life.

Our purpose is not simply to tell readers what to buy.

We aim to help readers understand why something matters, how it is made, where it comes from and whether it deserves their attention.

This Editorial Policy explains the principles that guide our editorial work.

1. Editorial Independence

Editorial independence is fundamental to Aurea Regula.

Our editorial decisions are made according to our own editorial judgement and are not determined by advertisers, sponsors, manufacturers, retailers, public-relations agencies or commercial partners.

Commercial relationships must not determine the outcome of an editorial article.

A company may advertise with Aurea Regula without receiving favourable editorial treatment.

Similarly, a product or brand may be featured editorially without creating an obligation to purchase advertising.

Where commercial relationships could reasonably influence the way a story is understood, we will disclose them clearly.

2. Accuracy

We believe that good writing begins with accurate information.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that factual statements are accurate before publication.

Depending on the subject, this may include checking:

  • Manufacturer information
  • Official records
  • Primary sources
  • Published documentation
  • Interviews
  • Historical sources
  • Specialist references
  • Direct observations
  • Multiple independent sources

We distinguish between facts, interpretation and opinion.

Statements presented as factual should be supported by appropriate evidence.

When information cannot be independently verified, we will make that limitation clear rather than presenting speculation as fact.

3. Taste, Opinion and Editorial Judgement

Aurea Regula is not a publication that pretends every question has one objectively correct answer.

Many of the subjects we cover involve taste.

Whether a watch is beautiful, whether a particular leather is preferable, whether a restaurant is memorable or whether a particular piece of design has enduring character can involve legitimate editorial judgement.

We therefore distinguish between:

Fact

Information that can reasonably be verified.

Opinion

An author's considered judgement.

Editorial preference

The perspective or taste of Aurea Regula.

We do not present personal preference as objective fact.

4. Fairness and Balance

Aurea Regula seeks to present subjects fairly and in appropriate context.

Fairness does not mean giving every possible opinion equal space.

It means avoiding material distortion, misleading omissions and unreasonable characterisation.

When we publish significant criticism of a person, company, product or organisation, we will make reasonable efforts to provide relevant context and, where appropriate, give the affected party an opportunity to respond.

We may decline to publish a response where it is irrelevant, abusive, misleading or otherwise inappropriate.

5. Product Reviews and Testing

Aurea Regula may review watches, writing instruments, leather goods, clothing, tools, automobiles, technology and other products.

Where practical, products may be examined or tested directly.

However, we will not claim to have personally tested a product when we have not.

If an article is based primarily on research, manufacturer information, historical documentation or observation rather than hands-on testing, this will be reflected in the article where relevant.

Receiving a product for review does not guarantee positive coverage.

A product may be described as unsuitable, overpriced, poorly made or otherwise disappointing where that is our honest editorial conclusion and the conclusion can be reasonably supported.

6. Sponsored Content and Commercial Relationships

Sponsored content, paid partnerships and other commercial material will be clearly identified.

Commercial content will not be presented as independent editorial reporting.

Advertisers and commercial partners do not have the right to approve ordinary editorial coverage simply because they advertise with Aurea Regula.

Where a commercial relationship is relevant to a story, we will disclose it.

7. Affiliate Links and Commissions

Aurea Regula may participate in affiliate programmes.

Where appropriate, an article may contain links through which Aurea Regula receives a commission if a reader makes a purchase.

Affiliate relationships do not determine our editorial conclusions.

We may recommend an item even where no affiliate commission is available, and we may decline to recommend an item where an affiliate relationship exists.

Our editorial judgement comes first.

Where affiliate relationships are relevant to a particular article, we will disclose them clearly.

8. Gifts, Samples and Review Products

Manufacturers, brands, distributors, public-relations agencies and other organisations may provide products, samples, invitations or access for editorial consideration.

Receiving a product or invitation does not guarantee coverage or a favourable review.

Where the receipt of a product or other material benefit could reasonably affect how a story is understood, we will disclose the relationship.

Where practical, we will distinguish between:

  • Products supplied temporarily for review
  • Products supplied without a requirement to return
  • Products purchased independently by Aurea Regula
  • Products provided for editorial access or demonstration

9. Sources

We prefer reliable and appropriate sources for the subject being reported.

Sources may include:

  • Original documents
  • Manufacturers
  • Craftspeople
  • Designers
  • Historians
  • Watchmakers
  • Industry professionals
  • Institutions
  • Books and archival material
  • Academic sources
  • Interviews
  • Direct observation

We do not knowingly fabricate sources, quotations, specifications, historical events or other factual material.

Anonymous sources may be used only where there is a legitimate editorial reason to protect the source's identity.

10. Confidential Sources

When a source provides information on the understanding that their identity will remain confidential, we will take reasonable steps to protect that confidentiality.

Confidentiality may be reconsidered where disclosure is required by law or where there is an overriding and compelling reason to do so.

We will not knowingly misrepresent the identity or authority of a source.

11. Corrections

We believe that correcting an error is part of responsible publishing.

If we discover that an article contains a significant factual error, we will correct it as soon as reasonably practical.

Depending on the nature and significance of the error, we may:

  • Correct the relevant passage
  • Add a correction note
  • Update the article
  • Clarify the original wording
  • Remove information that cannot be adequately verified

Minor typographical or grammatical errors may be corrected without a formal correction notice.

We will not deliberately leave an inaccurate statement online simply because it has already been published.

For correction requests, contact:

editor@aurearegula.com

12. Editorial Complaints

We welcome reasonable and substantive feedback about our editorial work.

If you believe that an article contains a significant factual error, is materially misleading, or does not meet the standards described in this policy, please contact:

editor@aurearegula.com

Please include:

  • The article title
  • The relevant passage
  • The nature of the concern
  • Supporting information or evidence where available

We will review legitimate complaints and, where appropriate, investigate the matter.

Editorial disagreement does not necessarily constitute an error.

A difference of opinion about taste, style or judgement is not automatically grounds for correction.

13. Conflicts of Interest

Writers and editors should disclose relevant conflicts of interest.

A conflict may arise where an individual involved in an article has a significant personal, financial or professional relationship with a person, company, product or organisation being covered.

Potential conflicts may include:

  • Financial interests
  • Ownership
  • Employment
  • Consultancy
  • Close personal relationships
  • Commercial partnerships
  • Gifts or benefits

Where a conflict cannot reasonably be managed through disclosure, the individual may be removed from the editorial decision.

14. Editorial Use of Artificial Intelligence

Aurea Regula may use artificial intelligence tools to assist certain parts of the editorial process.

AI tools may be used for purposes such as:

  • Research assistance
  • Brainstorming
  • Translation
  • Summarisation
  • Drafting assistance
  • Editing
  • Organisation of research
  • Image or visual development
  • Identifying areas requiring further fact-checking

AI-generated information is not automatically treated as fact.

Editors remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of published material.

We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, invented sources or unsupported factual claims generated by AI.

Where AI assistance produces information that cannot be independently verified, we will not present it as established fact.

AI is a tool within our editorial process.

It is not a substitute for editorial responsibility.

15. Photography, Images and Copyright

Aurea Regula respects copyright and intellectual property rights.

We aim to use images and other creative materials only where we have appropriate permission, licensing, ownership or another lawful basis for doing so.

We do not knowingly present another person's work as our own.

Where attribution is required, appropriate credit will be provided.

If you believe that copyrighted material has been used improperly on Aurea Regula, please contact:

editor@aurearegula.com

We will investigate legitimate claims.

16. Privacy and Personal Information

We respect the privacy of individuals who interact with Aurea Regula.

We do not intentionally publish private personal information simply because it is available elsewhere.

Information about private individuals will be treated with particular care.

Our handling of personal data is governed by our:

Privacy Policy

which explains how Aurea Regula collects, uses, stores and protects personal information.

17. Avoiding Unnecessary Harm

Aurea Regula seeks to publish responsibly and avoid unnecessary harm.

We will consider the potential consequences of publishing material involving:

  • Private individuals
  • Personal information
  • Allegations of wrongdoing
  • Sensitive personal circumstances
  • Potentially defamatory claims
  • Images or material that could cause unnecessary distress

The fact that information is technically obtainable does not automatically mean that publishing it is justified.

We consider relevance, public interest, accuracy and proportionality.

18. Public Interest

Aurea Regula recognises that there may be circumstances where publication serves a legitimate public interest.

Public interest is not the same as public curiosity.

Relevant public-interest considerations may include:

  • Consumer protection
  • Significant misconduct
  • Public safety
  • Financial wrongdoing
  • Serious conflicts of interest
  • Matters affecting a significant number of people

Where publication involves a significant potential impact on an individual or organisation, we will consider whether the public-interest justification is sufficient.

19. Advertising and Editorial Separation

Advertising and editorial content serve different purposes.

Advertising may promote a commercial product, service or organisation.

Editorial content represents the independent judgement of Aurea Regula.

Where advertising, sponsored content, affiliate content or another commercial relationship exists, it should be distinguishable from ordinary editorial material.

Commercial considerations should not be allowed to silently determine editorial conclusions.

20. Our Approach to Luxury and Consumption

Aurea Regula covers products and experiences that may be expensive or considered luxurious.

However, price alone is not our definition of quality.

We may consider:

  • Design
  • Materials
  • Craftsmanship
  • Durability
  • History
  • Function
  • Provenance
  • Repairability
  • Cultural significance
  • Value relative to alternatives

An expensive product is not automatically a good product.

A modestly priced object may be worthy of attention if it demonstrates exceptional design, craftsmanship or utility.

Our editorial purpose is therefore not to encourage consumption for its own sake.

It is to encourage better understanding and more considered choices.

21. Independence from Brands

Aurea Regula may write about established brands, independent makers, small workshops and emerging companies.

We do not guarantee positive coverage in exchange for access, products, advertising or commercial relationships.

A brand may disagree with our assessment.

That disagreement does not by itself require us to change our editorial conclusion.

However, if we discover that our reporting contains a factual error, we will correct it.

22. Editorial Responsibility

Every published article represents a degree of editorial responsibility.

We aim to ensure that our work is:

Accurate.

Honest.

Useful.

Transparent.

Respectful.

Independent.

We do not promise perfection.

We do promise to take reasonable care with what we publish and to correct significant mistakes when they are identified.

23. Our Editorial Standard

Aurea Regula exists to explore taste, craft and culture.

We believe good editorial work should do more than tell readers what is fashionable.

It should provide context.

It should reward curiosity.

It should distinguish quality from marketing.

It should explain craftsmanship rather than simply celebrate price.

It should allow readers to form their own judgement.

And when we express our own judgement, we should be honest that it is a judgement.

Our standard is simple:

Look carefully.
Research properly.
Write honestly.
Disclose clearly.
Correct mistakes.
Leave the reader better informed.

That is the editorial standard we aim to uphold at Aurea Regula.
